The Challenge
Miso Noodle Bar makes excellent fresh, hand-pulled ramen. Despite having a loyal dining customer base, their online ordering was processed through third-party food delivery apps that took huge 20% to 30% commission cuts and failed to display their food beautifully. They wanted a branded ordering flow that bypassed middleman fees.
The Strategy
We built a direct, commission-free online ordering app natively integrated into their web experience. The interface features their high-quality food photography and lets users configure orders and customize toppings (e.g., adding extra soft-boiled eggs or chashu pork) with a simple tap, checking out securely via Apple Pay or credit card.
System Mockup & Interface Design
To implement this service, we designed and built a custom client-facing interface. Below is the mobile-optimized direct ordering app mockup developed for this project:
Business Operations & Integrations
Operating a restaurant requires speed. Orders must arrive in the kitchen instantly without manual typing or delays:
- Stripe Terminal POS Printer Sync: When a user checks out using Apple Pay or credit card, the site sends a webhook directly to the kitchen POS. The order is printed directly on the kitchen prep line ticket printer.
- Mapbox Distance Calculation API: During delivery orders, the app calculates the distance from the restaurant to the client's home in real-time, validating delivery radius limits and calculating courier fees.
The Outcome
Direct online ordering sales increased by 45% within three months of launch. Because they bypassed third-party app fees, Miso Noodle Bar saved thousands of dollars in commissions, completely recouping the cost of their custom website build in under six weeks.
